DOUBLE VISION – THE ELOVATERS

The Elovaters Double Vision

Double Vision

How do local boys and family The Elovaters follow up after dropping an amazing release in Defy Gravity? They drop a dope EP straight from the hands of producer Danny Kalb. The latest drop from the boys, ‘Double Vision’ is sure to make your summer playlists for many summers to come. We here at DYFO got to talk to front man Jackson Wetherbee about the latest release, as well as life in quarantine. Here’s what he had to say…

INTERVIEW WITH JACKSON WETHERBEE

MITCHY DREAD – Where did you come up with the name ‘Double Vision’?

JACKSON WETHERBEE – It goes back to the old adage that every coin has two side. There is always another way to look at something, and it can sometimes be hard to see both sides. For example, with all this COVID-19 pandemic, it’s horrible and beyond saddening to see people dying and our country shut down. At the same time is beautiful to see so many people come together to help those in need get past all of this.

MD – What track was the most fun to make?

JW – Probably Nostalgia, we all got to do group claps and for the first time group vocals, it was a blast.

MD – What’s your fondest memory recording with Danny Kalb?

JW – For sure his creativity. He is always coming up with killer ideas, like the group vocals, or group claps.

MD – How has life changed for you guys since the release of ‘Defy Gravity’?

JW – It has been an amazing ride. Since recording Defy Gravity, we released it under our favorite label Rootfire, and got signed to our top management company in the game, Ineffable. We also got signed to Madison House booking agency and have toured with Stick Figure, Pepper and The Movement. We have been stoked since the minute we entered the studio to record that album.

MD – Usually after a band drops an album, they follow up with a tour to promote the new music. With live music being cancelled all over the country, what’s the plan to promote this new music?

JW – We have some music videos in the works and some fun social media stuff we will be pumping out for the next upcoming month!

MD – Looking ahead, what is your biggest goal in 2021 for The Elovaters?

JW – Just to keep on pushing really, possibly record another album, hopefully for 2021 get on a badass tour.

MD – What are some must have snacks for the tour bus?

JW – Eggies in Johnny Blaze’s hard boiled egg machine, BBQ for Link, and burritos for the boys.

DOUBLE VISION EP REVIEW

The Double Vision EP by The Elovaters is a five song masterpiece. The first track Let It All Out features Brett Bollinger of Pepper.  This is definitely an upbeat tune with horns blasting throughout. Nostalgia follows up, and will certainly have you reminiscing about the old days and hometown vibes. Then comes the treat we have all been waiting for, Poison Cup. Those of you who have been fortunate enough to catch The Elovaters live, have probably danced hard to this tune before. Next up is Won’t Be The Last Time. This song features fellow label mates Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. It will have you skankin’ all over the backyard or beach. To wrap the EP up, we have Fast And Slow. De La (Slightly Stoopid) and Billy Kottage (Reel Big Fish/The Interrupters) provide the horns. This was the first single released back on February 7, 2020.
