PWHL Boston vs Minnesota on 1/27/2024 at the Tsongas Center

PWHL Boston took on PWHL Minnesota at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts on January 27, 2024. This was a rematch of Boston’s home opener, which they lost 3-2. Boston came into this matchup looking for their first home win, as they started out 0-2 at the Tsongas Center. Fortunately, they have gone 3-0 on the road to begin the season. 

The action picked up quickly in the first, with Kaleigh Fratkin scoring 5:35 in to give Boston the 1-0 lead. Jamie Lee Rattray and Jessica Digirolamo picked up the assists. Taylor Girard then scored just 30 seconds later for Boston, assisted by Shiann Darkangelo and Nicole Kosta. Brittyn Fleming put Minnesota on the board at 13:07 into the first, making it a 2-1 game. A minute and 20 seconds later, Alina Müller scored her second goal of the season to increase Boston’s lead to 3-1. The second period went scoreless until the final minute when Grace Zumwinkle netted her sixth goal of the year for Minnesota at 19:22. The third period was much of the same, with no goals scored until the final minute. Kendall Coyne Schfield scored her second goal of the season at 19:07 with the goalie pulled to send the contest into overtime.  

OVERTIME

The three on three overtime did not take long to get resolved. Just 52 seconds into the bonus period, Boston captain Hilary Knight scored the first goal of her PWHL career. Megan Keller and Alina Müller got the assists. Hilary Knight was named as the player of the game. Alina Müller was named the first star of the week as well, as she is now tied with Alex Carpenter (NY) with 9 points to lead the league.

KEEPING UP WITH PWHL BOSTON

PWHL Boston will be taking on Montreal next on February 4, 2024. This will be a home game at the Tsongas Center. Before then, there will be the PWHL 3 on 3 Showcase to kick off the NHL All-Star festivities on February 1, 2024. Hilary Knight, Alina Müller, and Megan Keller of Boston will all be skating for Team King. Boston goaltender Aerin Frankel will also be part of Team King.
