The 2022 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Both games took place on December 18, 2022. The matchups featured were UConn vs. Florida State, and Iowa State vs. Villanova.
UCONN VS. FLORIDA STATE
Game one started out with the hometown team UConn taking on Florida State. UConn ended up taking home the victory in a tight battle, with a final score of 85-77. Aaliyah Edwards and Lou Lopez-Senechal led the way in scoring for UConn, with 26 and 23 points respectively. Forward Dorka Juhasz paced the team in rebounds with 9, although plenty of others chipped in as well on the way to the team totaling 46. Starting Guard Nika Muhl stood out with 12 assists. Guard Ta’Niya Latson contributed 24 points in the losing effort for Florida State. Erin Howard’s 8 rebounds and O’Mariah Gordon’s 4 assists also led Florida State on the afternoon.
IOWA STATE VS. VILLANOVA
The second and final game of the day was Iowa State vs. Villanova. Ashley Joens’ 17 points led the way for Iowa State as they topped Villanova 74-62. Emily Ryan chipped in 16 points, and Stephanie Soares contributed 14 points of her own for Iowa State. Soares and Joens also led their team in rebounding. Soares finished with 11, while Joens grabbed 10 giving both players a double-double for the game. Emily Ryan fell just shy of that feat, as she snagged 9 rebounds. Ryan also led her team in assists with 10, while Soares and Guard Lexi Donarski each contributed 3. Maddy Siegrist had an excellent game for Villanova despite the defeat. She put up 32 points to go along with 12 rebounds. She was also an impressive 12-13 from the free throw line. Lucy Olsen was the only other Nova player to post double digit points, as she scored 14 for the day.
